Green Village | Bali | Ibuku
Set within a rural landscape along Bali Ayung’s river, Green Village is a planned community based on design concepts and sustainable principles established by the artisans and craftsmen that built Green School. Elora Hardy, Creative Director of the Ibuku bamboo company honored as a finalist of the 2010 Aga Khan Award for Architecture, says “Ibuku is committed to changing people’s perspective on the infinite potential of bamboo. With very few resources or attention a bamboo shoot can become a structural column within three years, and that house could stand strong for a lifetime.” Raised in Bali and educated in the U.S., Hardy honed her design skills as sole print designer for fashion icon, Donna Karan, in New York City before moving back home in 2010. “Creating spaces where people can feel connected to nature without disrupting it is a thrilling design challenge for me,” she says..........more

Town Town Erdberg Vienna | COOP HIMMELB(L)AU
For its project Town Town Erdberg, COOP HIMMELB(L)AU will receive the Sustainability Award of the 2010 MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards. The distinction will be presented during a prestigious ceremony at the international real estate summit MIPIM on March 17, 2010 in Cannes.
The intention of developing the office high-rise Town Town Erdberg was to generate a building which correlates to the principle 'Aesthetics of Sustainability'.
Through an energy active façade and an integrated wind turbine the building is producing more energy than it is actually consuming.
"According to that, Town Town Erdberg is not a passive house but an active house," said Wolf D. Prix, Design Principal and CEO of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU.
The prototype of the energy façade is currently tested in cooperation with SFL Technologies. Since 2002 the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects Awards have been granted for un-built or incomplete projects.
Kieran Long, Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Review states: "With a strong focus on creativity, these awards are a chance to showcase schemes that are examples of fine architecture, but have also responded to the clients development brief, and considered the way in which they will impact and contribute to the community around them.

DRAGONFLY, A METABOLIC FARM FOR URBAN AGRICULTURE |Vincent Callebaut

2009 : 800 MILLION OF URBAN FARMERS FOR RESPONSIBLE ECO-CITIES
The world of fast-food and frozen food is over! The urban keen interest of the beginning of our Century turns toward the garden flat bringing back the countryside in our overcrowded cities fighting from now on for a community urban agriculture able to contribute to the durability of the city and to rethink the food production.
On the roofs, terraces, balconies, in the hollow of the non-built public spaces, in the interior yards and the suspended greenhouses, the eco-warrior aspires to escape from its competitive and consumeristic universe imposed by the laws of the market. He desires to cultivate its immediate landscape so as to better take root in the ground by creating his own ecologic and alimentary biodiversity. The consumer becomes from then on producer and the garden inhabitant !
From the Parisian « worker gardens » to the « community gardens » of New York going though Muscovite « vegetable squares », eight hundred million of urban farmers, i.e. more than one human being out of ten, consume nowadays chlorophyllous products from these cosmopolitan kitchen gardens. These new gardens, aware of the emergency to reduce our fuel consumption and the necessity to modify our behaviour facing the climatic changes, decrease thus their environmental impact and build eco-responsible cities on a community way.
