The Battle of Britain Beacon | Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios

The Battle of Britain Beacon will be a lasting tribute, not only to the sacrifice of young men from around the world who were involved in such a defining moment in history, but also to the ordinary people for whom it was their 'Finest Hour'. The elegant and sleek structure will dominate the skyline and will be visible from the centre of the city. FCB Studios have already designed the multi-award-winning National Cold War Exhibition at the museum’s Cosford site and the Milestones of Flight Exhibition building at Hendon.

The Beacon’s design features a tapered body of the 116 metre (350ft) structure culminating in a beautiful shell on one side while the cone is slashed through on the other to reveal the swooping and circling forms of three iconic aircraft as they dogfight in the actual battlespace.

The exciting concept will allow wider public access and ensure that the Museum’s unique collection of Battle of Britain aircraft, memorabilia and archives are preserved for the education and enjoyment of future generations.

“It is a winning partnership based on trust, innovation, understanding and inspiration.”
