La zona Temporary pavillion, 50° Biennale d'Arte di Venezia, Venice, Italy 2003 By A12 Associati

La Zona is a temporary pavilion for the display of contemporary arts, installed in the Giardini della Biennale, in Venice, during the 50th International Exhibition in 2003. Located in an open area, it configures an ephemeral public space and gallery, designed to intersect the flows of visitors who attend the Biennale. The intervention is conceived as an almost mute architecture, thought to provide a neutral stage for the works of art and for the public.The project is divided in two juxtaposed elements: a volume, which contains a gallery and a lifted outdoor platform. In its simplicity, la Zona acted as a transitory public space, providing a pause in the incessant circulation of the Biennale.

A12 Associati is a professional partnership of architects that have been working in the field between art and architecture at an international level for almost 20 years, working at very different scales, with architectural, exhibit design and urban projects, installations, design and graphic design, promoting various cultural and research activities.

A12 also develops didactic activities at the Politecnico of Milano, at the Domus Academy and at the Naba in Milano. Since 2004, the current group members work together under the title of A12 Associates, based in Milan. At present, A12 Associati members are: Andrea Balestrero, Gianandrea Barreca, Antonella Bruzzese, Maddalena De Ferrari, Massimiliano Marchica.
