Windshape was an ephemeral structure commissioned in 2006 by the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) as a gathering space for students and as a venue to host events in their Provence campus in Lacoste, France. Windshape became the main public meeting space in the small town, and hosted concerts, exhibitions, and ceremonial gatherings throughout the summer of 2006. Rest Stop Design | Snefjord Rest Stop | Norway | Pushak

The site of the road stop is a paradox. Oftentimes, the hardest winds blow off the sea, and yet the most attractive view is toward the fjord. The obvious response in order to shield tourists from the wind would be to construct a view-blocking wall. Instead three ”bench-boxes” prefabricated at a local wharf dot the area, and their differing orientations allow visitors to choose where to sit according to wind and sun conditions. Two persons or groups can use each box at once while they retain some privacy. The structure is built with steel bars with cantilevered benches and roofs. The interiors are covered with oak. The exteriors are coverd with copper sheets...........more

Teahouse Design | The Black Teahouse | Česká Lípa | Czech Republic | A1 Architects

The inner space of the teahouse could be adjusted by the sliding doors, so there are more levels of perception of nearby landscape. One could enframe his own preferred view as a painting in the interior. There is a daylight play of sunbeams in gilded skylight, when the teahouse is closed. The whole interior is crowned with knitted geometry of cone soffit made out of sisal ropes. The hearth is the central point of the room, from which the space flows to large veranda built with larch planks. The veranda is a unique space for watching the water level and the life beneath. There is another important motif next to the knitted soffit in the interior, it is a rounded wall with clay plaster which integrates three bamboo vases as a reminiscence of famous japanese tokonoma – the niche for flowers and caligraphy.
The Teahouse is carefully designed to become a natural part od the landscape and so the green roof is a fragment of grassy surroundings.
The whole house is covered with charred larch facing and so it is called The Black Teahouse.........more

The design concept of the travelling Pavilion for Vertu is to create an object that falls from the sky and land into the exhibition of objects. Through the full impact of its presents, it influence and alter the exhibition experience through space and time.

Vertu ‘s travelling exhibition is developed from natures phenomenon such as an explosion, collision, the twist bend elastic forces, it is the physical principles of natures forced visible from observation and research. The architecture is formally covered in sharp and broken shreds, an exploration of the residue let behind from nature’s formal transformation post collision. Vertu’s travelling pavilion architecture’s façade is a signifier of the split moment taken from nature’s explosion and fragmentation impact, realized in its formal state.............more

Foster + Partners’ design for the UAE pavilion draws inspiration from a sand dune, a symbolic feature of the desert landscape shared by each of the seven emirates. With capacity for 450 people and enclosing 3,000 square metres of exhibition space, the pavilion is one of the largest structures to be built for the 2010 Shanghai Expo. Responding to the ‘Better Cities, Better Lives’ theme, the pavilion is designed to showcase projects such as the Masdar Initiative, a new 6 million square metre carbon neutral zero waste community in Abu Dhabi, intended to become a centre for the development of new ideas for energy production.........more

Viewing platform set on the top of a hill of Koblenz in Germany. Amazing view of the historical town, and of the confluence between Rhine and Mosel.
It is about a big outdoor wooden structure supported by Corten steel posts, themselves anchorded in concrete foundations. Top view represent a triangle defined by tree different spans, the last set on the first one. This junction is made using 4 L-shape wooden columns. A path set on the top of the roof allows the walkers to carry on the promenade outside the structure. The closed shape of the structure allows to avoid massive wind bracing frame. Wood essence used is Douglas-fir. Two layers of diagonales were used in the way to reduce the section and the buckling length by links at the crossing point. Joints were made with steel plates set into the wood by dowels. Design of elements and details tried to guarantee a maximum the durability of the all structure avoiding any water stagnation........more

Shift architecture urbanism took the initiative to reanimate the quintessential quality of the Tilburg campus: strong solitary buildings in the green. As a major and permanent facility the Thematic Pavilion embodies the Expo’s theme “The Living Ocean and Coast” in manifold ways. The aim of the design is to create an iconic landmark that is integrated into its urban context and the surrounding nature. We experience the Ocean mainly in two ways, as an endless surface and - in an immersed perspective - as depth. This plain/profound duality of the Ocean motivates the building’s spatial and organisational concept. Continuous surfaces twist from vertical to horizontal orientation and define the significant interior spaces. The vertical cones induce the visitor to immerse into the Thematic Exhibition. They evolve into horizontal levels that cover the foyer and become a flexible stage for the „Best Practice Area“. Continuous transitions between contrasting experiences also form the outer appearance of the Pavilion. Towards the sea the conglomeration of solid vertical cones defines a new meandering coast line, a soft edge that is in constant negotiation between water and land. Opposite side the pavilion develops out of the ground into an artificial roof–landscape with gardens and scenic paths. The topographic lines of the roof turn into lamellas of the kinetic media façade that faces the Expo’s entrance and the “Digital Gallery”. .......more

Nomadic Dwelling | The Flake House | Olgga Architectes

The flake house, a nomadic, road-gauged dwelling, has been conceived to clad the places wherever it lands, as to transpose theses in an unusual vision. A poetical shelter, a “folie”, that merges low-tech and hi-tech. The interior finish is smooth and stripped down as to contrast with the traditional look of the external log cladding.
Created in 2006 for the competition “Petites machines à habiter” held by the CAUE 72, OLGGA’ proposal for this nomadic wooden shelter is based on the concept of the «folie», where the wooden structure is broken in two halves establishing a radical spatial boundary while materializing an unexpected entry sequence.
An object, recalling a broken branch, whose unconventional scale is the main idea of the project: to be built-up, taken down, moved,put down, left behind or taken along, inhabited or left to it’s surrounding.
The Flake house will be located on the site of Frossay (Le Carnet).
I.C.I.! (Instant Carnet Island) is a temporary refuge of micro-architectures and light habitat meeting based on the bank of the Loire and open to anybody. .......more

With a small budget so spaces can be created that have a high quality. The entry points can always be adapted to changing circumstances: The furniture can be easily transported from place to place, existing configurations can be expanded, etc.
Simple form - consistent appearance
The three furniture is made from the same materials and have the same height. Information boards and displays are always found in the same place. The clear design of the furniture, with advice and calm the inflationary signs equipped public space. The exact formation of edges provides precision and accuracy.
From simple to large stele stop with bus stops in front of a cable car produced by the combination of the three furniture (stele, temple and Sitzbox) and its simple, rectangular shape a uniform appearance with high recognition value........more

By means of digital projection the panoramas undergo permanent change. Different weather situations, sunshine, rain and snow may be simulated, as well as the transition of day to night and vice versa, or various scales.

This house for my mom Helen is the culmination of a lifelong dream to construct a place where my mom, my brother, and I can be together. My mom first moved away from the city and built her own home out of tree trunks, mosquito nets and tin. She then placed her bed in a corner of this house to watch the moon as she went to bed, and told me that she remembers both my brother and I every night as she watches the moon. The new home then became reinterpretation of her old self made dwelling by providing her with a view to the moon and a very open plan that captures an internal garden whilst giving her security when she sleeps........more

The basis for the project was to have a cover that could be used in many different contexts, from concerts and square trade to an informal meeting in the city. The huts are comfortable, minimal sleeping, toilet and eating facilities for guests of the Sporting Club. The client maintains a hunting preserve and horse riding trails on a former ranch property. They requested a site near the creek, which optimally was the nearby 100 year flood plain.....more

The Sun Rays Pavilion | Michael Jantzen

The Sun Rays Pavilion is designed to celebrate the return of the rays of the sun each day to the surface of the earth. It will be approximately 150 feet tall, 250 feet long, and 130 feet wide. The structure will be made of twelve precast concrete rectangular columns which symbolically represent the rays of the sun. At the ends of each column, facing south, there will be a large (20 by 26 foot) glazed area coated with a photovoltaic film. This film allows filtered light down into the structure while generating the electricity needed to power the pavilion as well as sending surplus energy into the local power grid.
