The Classroom of the Future | Kensington | London | Studio E Architects


The Classroom of the Future is one of 30 projects funded by the DCSF with the aim of challenging conventional thinking on school building design. Our project was for the St Francis of Assisi primary school in North Kensington. The classroom incorporates a telescope, an indoor tropical garden, a wireless network, and leading edge low energy and a range of low energy, environmental measures. A consultative process involving students, staff and the local community resulted in design criteria that were both practical and aspirational - the building image, for instance, was to be that of an "observatory" focused around its telescope but also communicating a sense of enquiry about the world and the universe.........more
