DUNE TERRACE, GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM, EGYPT, 2002
In a critique of the museum as a reified curatorial circuit, this competition entry proposes additional modes of navigation: easy overviews, random surfing, and rapid access to specific galleries. Visitors to the new 860,000 sf museum arrive onto an exterior terrace framing views of the Pyramids beyond. Five lobby-galleries lead to the permanent collection in a floating bar above, or to the temporary gallery, convention center and sculpture gardens below.
