The first completed component of the Canal Quarter masterplan is a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Caldon Canal.
The underside of the 22m clear span is faceted and illuminated to create a visual spectacle for both boat users and pedestrians on the canal bank and define a place where people can rest or gather. Subtly, when the bridge is viewed from below, the brick pier on the north side of the canal appears to support one end, but its south end looks as though it is either fixed to the side of the pier adjacent or fully cantilever.....more

Bridge Design | Parkway Iconic Bridge | Edgley Design
The concept for the scheme is to create a pair of surfaces, intertwined to create a deep structure which acts like a beam, allowing a large span to be formed out of relatively light materials.The bridge is formed around the trajectory of a horse or bicycle along its upper surface, forming a gentle arch, and around the trajectory of the pedestrian to the lower surface, forming an intricate path for the footbound explorer. The bridge would be welded out of corten steel plates, to create a solid surface. London Olympics 2012 | Central Park Bridges | Heneghan Peng Architects

Two permanent bridges are linked by a narrow diagonal span over Carpenters Lock at the centre of the Olympic Park. During the Olympics a central temporary infill between the bridges accommodates the crowds. In the legacy park, two bowls are created on either side of the lock linking the upper park concourse with the lower level of towpaths and waterways.Embedded within the design for F06 is the understanding that the Olympic / Park concourse should be perceived as a ʻcontinuous landscape that seamlessly extends across the various waterways, railways and roads’ forming a primary movement infrastructure surface for the park.
Equally important is the connection of the parkʼs two horizontal planes. The concourse upper level, connecting the north and south Olympic park and the ecological lower level made up of the towpaths and waterways.
Finally, the design understands that though the duration of the Olympics is short lived, it is this momentum that drives its legacy and the success of the park. Capturing the exuberance of the Olympic games, the surface of the temporary infill deck utilises recycled running shoes to form a multi‒coloured carpet of ‘Confetti’ to celebrate the Olympic moment. ....more

The Helix Bridge,Singapore Designed By Cox Rayner Architects
The World Architecture Festival Awards recognise excellence in international architecture, including both completed and future projects. The third year of the Awards received over 500 entries from 61 countries and Programme Director Paul Finch said, “The geographical range and quality of this year’s designs were exceptionally high, with a great deal of entries from ‘new’ economies, both by local architects and international practices.” The Helix Bridge in Singapore, designed by Cox Rayner Architects, won the World’s Best Transport Building. The judges praised the unique weaving structure of The Helix Bridge, saying: “The structure, which is derived from its ability to curve in plan and section due to its helical form, will become an important addition to the pedestrian experience in Singapore both in daytime and at night. The scale for the pedestrian is very important with viewing pods integrated in the solution, providing opportunities for informal gatherings.”.....more at ADR

Simcoe Wavedeck,Toronto, Canada | West 8 Urban Design
The Simcoe WaveDeck, one of four uniquely Canadian wavedecks planned for the Waterfront Toronto, is as artistic as it is functional. Located at the water’s edge, the wooden wavedeck features an informal public amphitheatre-style space with impressive curves that soar as high as 2.6 metres above the lake. Inspired by the Canadian cottage experience and the shorelines of Ontario’s great lakes, the wavedeck is meant to give urban dwellers a feel for life at the lake. Providing access to Lake Ontario is a key priority for Waterfront Toronto. Built in less than eight months, the Simcoe WaveDeck joins the Spadina WaveDeck which opened last year in creating more public space along one of the most heavily used parts of the Toronto shoreline. The third Rees Wavedeck was opened in August. The wavedecks are just one part of Waterfront Toronto’s award-winning design for the central waterfront. Design and study of a footbridge.
Concept
This footbridge in the city of Esch-sur-Alzette forms a direct link between the heart of the city and the green space of Parc du Galgenberg. Specific featuresThe site conditions for the bridge are complex. Over a distance of over 100m a height difference of 21m needs to dealt with. At the same time several overhead wires and high tension cables need to be avoided. The security zones surrounding the different networks, the limited accessibility of the park and the quasi uninterruptability of the railway service form stringent boundary conditions. The bridge is one of the most important projects for the city of Esch-sur-Alzette, as it will create change on both an urbanistic and social level. At this moment there is no easy way to access the Parc du Galgenberg, although it is located near the city center. It is obvious that the bridge will play an important role in the revalorization of both the city and the train station neighborhood. The design purity is evident in the reduction of materials and elements. The entire bridge is conceived as a homogeneous steel skin. The exterior of this skin is painted pale gray, emphasizing the subtle curving of the project. The interior is painted in iron oxide red, referring to the Minette region's characteristic red soil. This red "path" indicates the transition from city center to green recreational area, and vice versa.

Bridges Parque Lineal de Manzanares 2007, Madrid, Spain | West 8












West 8, working together with MRIO, designed the master plan for the reclaimed riverbanks and the new urban area above the tunnels of the M30 highway in Madrid. The different parks that are part of the plan are connected by pedestrian bridges.
The bridges are designed as heavy concrete domes with a rough structure. One hundred cables carry the delicate steel deck as if they were whalebone.
On entering, the fine details of the bridge become clear. There is a fresco painted on the domed ceiling and lighting will be incorporated in the edges of the ceiling to light out the art work.

This project envisages London's Canary Wharf in the year 2030. The Business City will have grown by 100% and there is a desperate need for housing in the area.
By proposing a living bridge, we not just provide first class housing with individual water views, we also create a very important urban link between Greenwich Peninsula, Canary Wharf and Rotherhithe.
People can work, live and enjoy quality landscape in one place. There will be a good social mix of affordable housing, town houses and luxury penthouses with green roofs and roof gardens and hotels.
The bridge will have retail and restaurants on the main pedestrian level and a parking deck below.
