Bennetts Associates Architects and
Studio Zoppini was in the shortlist of 6 practices for the international competition to design one of the key venues for the 2012 Games. The dramatic leaf-like form is a metaphor for the 'greening' of the Lea Valley as well as forming a 'gateway' into the Olympic Park. Design for legacy, temporary Games elements, sustainability and meeting the £70m budget were at the heart of the proposals.
