Margarete Steiff Museum Giengen near Ulm | Ramseier & Associates

As the result of a competition between invited participants Ramseier & Associates Ltd. was commissioned to carry out the planning of the new Margarete Steiff Museum in Giengen near Ulm. The concrete and formalistic expression of the elliptical and slightly conical main structure recalls the pragmatism of Richard Serra’s steel sculptures. The museum, which covers 2,400 m² and involved costs of 10 million euros, presents the firm’s history as its main theme. In addition to this the building contains a section demons-

trating production methods, a restaurant and a museum shop. The museum was completed punctually in the spring of 2005, in time to celebrate the 125th anniversary of this world famous ‘Button in Ear’ toy manufacturer. In the autumn of 2005 Ramseier & Associates Ltd. received the ‘Exemplary Construction Award’ which is presented by the Chamber of Architecture of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.
